| Post subject: converting biz visa to permanent work visa |
anybody know how difficult/easy it is to convert a 1-year multiple-entry F visa to a permanent work visa? i'm wondering if i'm getting the runaround from my prospective employer. is it really that tough for a company (big international one, i should add) to do? any info much appreciated!
(sorry if this has been covered in another thread somewhere; for some reason i'm unable to use the search function).
thanks folks! |

It's not difficult at all! I have a process and required documents for work visa application procedure drew up in power point format (when I was getting my work visa last year). I am more than willing to share it with anyone who needs it. Give me your email. I will send it to you. |

chardy, sounds like your employer isn't very helpful in this regard. it does require the employer to prepare some documents too and send a person to do the initial works but except the "letter" there are nothing that they are not already have. I am crossing my fingers for you. Wish you finally have found someone friendly and helpful in the organization.
hummm.. am I taking the business from those visa application agents? hope my life won't be in danger. |

well, here's the deal. they've approached me about working for them here (i've worked for them before, elsewhere). but they're dragging their feet now. they say they really want me on board but "it's just that visa regulations are so rigid." i just wanna know if that's really the case (sure didn't seem to be for my fiance's company when they moved him up here from overseas!), 'cause if it's BS i don't wanna waste my time waiting around. |

Looks like the company is reconsidering the idea of hiring you. Since you have worked for them elsewhere, it shouldn't be so hard to apply for the license (as long as you have also provided necessary support documents for the application). After getting the license, everything else is a matter of walking along the process and getting the paperworks done.
Anyway, now you should have a clear idea of what the company would need to do and what documents you would need to prepare. Again, good luck. And, if you don't mind, let me know of the result. |

I've noticed that bluemoon definitely has a relationship with a "visa consultant". Everytime the subject comes up, she refers peope to this "Vladimir" character.
Okido, haven't you thought about converting the PowerPoint presentation into some format that's downloadable and just placing it on the site? Unless you have some other reason for building up a mailing list of those interested in Work Visas
Maybe you can answer the one question that's been on my mind (not that I ever - touch wood - will have to go through the tedious process of getting an employment license again). During SARS, they eliminated the requirement that people who were not top-level executives had to leave to get their first Z visa issued outside of China (a policy that certainly lacked "socialist characteristics"). Has this requirement now been reinstated? |

| Post subject: Benefits |
Could someone tell me the benefits of having a Residence permit( little green book) compared to a one year Business F visa????
You are allowed to borrow money from the bank with the F business visa. I don't see why some really would love to have this residence permit. What is so special about it and what can you do that you can't do with other visas???? |

You are entitled to certain benefits that F visa holders are not. To give a trivial example, hotels will often discounts to "Chinese citizens and residence permit holders". That in itself is not enough to justify the work in getting a res permit, but if you want to be here for the long term, u should be on a res permit, if only because it's convenient not to go to HK every X months. |

LeiFeng,
So thats the only reason? So you don't have to go back once a year to Hong Kong? Once I year on the company to Hong Kong is fine with me...
Thanks for the reply man |

Jake, not having to make the trip is more of a joke than an advantage... there are definitely advantages to having a residence permit - for example, you can get a driving license (which you need res permit for) and can do some other things that others can't. I just don't have time to research it for you guys. |
