Well I'm here.
First: Thanks guys. I felt a lot happier about coming here thanks to the comments and answers I received here (hidden under, I must admit, a reasonable amount of garbage).
Shanghai is pretty cool, I have my fanciest meal ever (with excellent service) for £10 or a decent one in a local (not quite sure what word goes here) for 50p.
Unlike in the UK where I get annoyed then noisy foreigners make lots of noise and disturb my dining, I (and a few friends) barge into a restaurant, point at peoples food, thumb through phrasebooks and make clucking noises, and the locals seem to find it cute.
The pace of life is so fast and so slow at the same time, someone keeps saying a sense of humour is vital I TOTALLY agree. Banks take HOURS to do anything, but taxies often can get you there quicker than you would believe physically possible (mainly because I assumed they would go AROUND the roadworks.
I will get around to popping in to Malones at some point to say Hi, (probably when reality kicks in) for now I am too busy exploring (and preparing to teach your kids [not English BTW so relax]).
I will try to pop back to answer others questions when I know enough to help the newbies (or when I need help myself)
Thanks again guys. |
