I build Web sites, drop me a PM if you want to see my portfolio.

If you need it on a .com address then it's all good but if you need it on a .cn address then I need to start doing some reading/work out how to get local hosting sorted.

.cn domains don't necessarily need to be hosted on local Chinese servers. They can be hosted on the same server as a .com domain for instance. We have many clients with .cn or .com.cn domain names which are hosted in the US.

Shocked dont suggest you do that as that will make you site looks very very "template" which could give your client a very bad impression on your company.

but if for starting up business and limited budget, it is ok i think.

I was reading in the Shanghai Daily that e-commerce sites will need a license to operate soon. Apparently it is to protect consumers (and track sales so people pay the correct taxes)

Haven't heard anything about e-commerce sites needing a licence, and I usually hear about things ahead of time.

Current government warning we received this week was about Botox.
No botox sales allowed on any sites now.

that's bullshiat and wrong on so many levels.

but i understand you, being a designer, would try to diss out the template companies.

templatemonster.com plus a bid on elance and you can get a top notch website up in days, without the "consulting fees" and other mumbo jumbo that "designers" (who often rip off templates themselves) will charge.

so kamehamehon, you are saying that a site like this

http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/20276.html

that costs around 400rmb "could give your client a very bad impression on your company"?

your own website looks very crappy, sorry to say it. my sincere opinion, and please take it as feedback and not as an "attack" is that you dont know what you are talking about.

and although you might think it is pretty clever to use flash the way you are in your own site, i am completely 100% sure that saleswise it hurts you.

plus it was only the other day that google and adobe created a way to index flash sites i.e. traffic wise your traffic is also a disaster.

computersolutions sites look good. i like the fact he puts a client questionnaire there. that's the right way to manage a project and assure it can be signed off. (by the way how is the eee pc battery coming along computersolutions?)

i know otorok and she is good. plus she loves cats, which is a great quality that only top designers share. and dont even argue about that.

if the op wants somebody to hold his hand and take care of everything, without having to edit a single page himself, then by all means hire commputersolutions or otorok.

if not, consider templatemonster.com. some good sites in there.

Yes I read about that as well, starting August 1st if I am not wrong. And they have some pretty interesting definitions about e-commerce sites, and only certain sites will require the licenses. A big portion of taobao sites for instance won't have to get that license.

However as usual whether this is going to be effectively implemented is a completely different issue Smile

Yes I agree with hc for many clients templates are more than enough for their needs. Not considering the fact that many web designers actually simply modify some existing templates and bill thousands for them. If I am paying for a custom-designed site then it really needs to be worth it. And never flash (unless it is a site just for my namecard) since I don't want to rely exclusively on PPC to drive traffic to my site Wink

you missed what i say for "if that is for starting up business ,that is ok" ,that means, if only want a website for a starting up business company ,that is ok and quite suitable

have you even download the site you gave me as following link ?"http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/20276.html"
it looks nice but the internal code is ...ok.... and you could image if people only want a brochure website, it is ok.but why we need website?
that is what i think-Give Your Clients The Easiest Access to Your Business On Any Time

for our site, i quite like it but maybe some people dont like it so much as it is "flash" + "personal reason"

i dont mind that as first of all , that is our studio website, not a IT company. you could come to select 100 top best website on the world ,and tell me how many they dont use flash for the whole site. For me , you criticize is ok for us and we will put that in mind and we are on the way to get our site better.

for the SEO ,we have thought before ,it is the weakness of flash and we understand how it unfriendly with flash etc .We know how it will be and not like other local companies who donno anything.

That's BS.

".We know how it will be and not like other local companies who donno anything."

That's BS too. I love the arrogance of saying that YOUR COMPANY "nos" about everything, but not others.

Complete and utter BS.

So, how much would a site just like the template I posted would cost with you? And how long would it take for you to get it done?

From your own website my guess is you know didly squat about usability but would still try to charge a "consulting fee".

"i dont mind that as first of all , that is our studio website, not a IT company. you could come to select 100 top best website on the world ,and tell me how many they dont use flash for the whole site. "

let's see: google doesnt use flash, amazon doesnt use flash, windows live doesnt use flash. do i need to go on? with the exception of banners ad here and there NO respectable site is 100% flash like yours, PERIOD.

My tip: develop your game better before coming up with that bunch of crap here because people will call you on it.

using flash a for site is not bad at all. A good website designer is know where to use which technology.

For a design studio , it is very common to use flash for the whole site .

Pls take care the word "BS"

and this is the last post i will reply to you . Just complain anything you want.

Flash is nice in certain circumstances - eg http://www.songbeijing.cn
Thats a nice use of flash, although they do lose on indexing.
Thats not a site we created though (although we are doing some hosting for them).

I try to steer clients away from flash for the usual reasons.
Usability.
Indexing.
Ease of Maintenance (thats a big one).

Where we do flash sites, we try to break it out to specific pages, rather than one whole takes 2 days to load flash - eg http://www.cabler.com.cn

We also design from scratch rather than from a supplied template. I agree with Jimmy on that one - if you buy a template, you'll look like any number of other sites that bought that template.

But, if your budget runs to getting a site online cheap, then thats what you do. We won't be able to help you in that case though.

if couldnt design a light flash, that is not a good design no matter how nice looking it is
