| Post subject: Cool Bars |
Hey all,
I'm new to Shanghai and living in Pudong.
I'm looking for some bars where the drinks aren;t outrageous, some music, maybe dancing (but not a club) and a good mix of expats and locals. In Puxi area?? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks:) |

Try "3 on the bund" (Guangdong lu). There's a bar on the 6th floor that's slightly upscale and attracts lots of young professional expats (as well as Chinese girls trying to meet young professional expats), there's a small dancefloor with decent music, and thursdays are two-martinis-for-65rmb night.
Personally I've found it frustratingly difficult to find decent bars in Shanghai that aren't 90% expats, so if you find one, let me know |

If you want a mix of expats and locals, you need to go where the drinks are cheap.
C's, Logo, Windows. Not sure what kind of music you like- if it's alternative type stuff then I think Logo sounds like what you're after actually- Dingxi Lu, Fahuazhen Lu. Look for the beer sign next to the convenience store. If you like R'n'B/hip-hop/chart stuff/clean toilets then The Spot on Tongren Lu / Beijing Lu. |

Isn't Logo on Xingfu Lu, or has it moved?
C's is on Dingxi Lu, near Yan'An Lu... |

A couple that haven't been mentioned...
Beaver - not that many locals (chinese), but definitely have a few local regulars.. pretty relaxed, easy to meet people, dancing as people have drank too much.
Harley's - in Xujiahui, maybe a bit too far from Pudong, really just a dive bar, but can get line 4 metro across, has pool table and mix of chinese and expats. |

Best bar by a mile in Pudong is Coconut bar at Thumb plaza. Small place on 2 floors and plenty of outside seating. Martin, German guy is the boss there and staff are very friendly mix between local and Philipino. They have a Philipino band on 6 nights a week which are pretty good, beer prices aren't going to break the bank.
The bar is located opposite the Irishman pub and a few doors from the new Malones so if sports is your thing you can watch at either Malones or Irishman and then saunter across to Coconut for a good cheap booze up with friendly folks |

went to Racks once, it was a comedy night so I enjoyed it, but jesus does that bar suck.
68RMB for average cocktails, shitty music, and you have to shell out top dollar to play pool. Also it's in a shopping centre, full of douche bags, and looks like a strip club with no strippers. |

lmao - Too right. I was there that same night for the comedy show. Jesus does that bar blow... I walked, in took one look at the drink list and went " Uh oh..." It does seriously look like the champagne room at a bad American peeler joint. |

You're in the wrong city. And living in the wrong part of the wrong city.
Logo, Windows (in its various incarnations) The Spot, and C's are decent but not great. |

there are a few small cozy bars on the hongmei lu. but nothing special there. baby bamboo is pretty ok, and the barn too, if you come with a few people. they let you choose the music so yeah.. |
