8th lunar month or the Mooncake festival starts on 31 Aug. Sunday 14th Sept is the day you're supposed to be outdoors sipping tea, nibbling on mooncakes and composing poems to the moon. If you're pissed with traditional mooncakes, try the "modern" ones from the 5 star hotels. The chocolate mooncakes from Laris looks like fun. |

It's not the "mooncake" festival, guys. Really. Not unless christmas is the mince pie festival and easter is the glazed ham festival and good friday is the empty plate festival ... |

Lol...I think any company who gives half day off would be extremely generous, or very very traditional...

yes, it was so before. Thus, everything has changed this year. The Mid-autumn Day has become the legal holiday in China now. So you don't have to work any more on that day. If you still need to work, you can get three times salary more than usual.
The date of the Mid-Autumn Day this year is Sep 14th. |

Yes, it's mid-autumn festival and people eat moon cakes to celebrate, it's not the moon cake festival. 15th September is a public holiday to mark this event in mainland China. |

Yay! Holiday...
Don't care much for mooncakes (maybe I won't get any this year since I'm not working for a Chinese company anymore), but would definitely love an extra day off. |

Most of my family friends and relatives don't like mooncake. It's sort of the equivalent for us of fruitcake at Christmas, where they get "re-gifted". IMO, the red date ones are ok.
Funny thing, when I managed an office at Wuhan the local staff there pleaded to have everyone receive bakery coupons instead of mooncakes. They didn't like them either. |

Mid-Autumn festival is on 15th day of the 8th lunar month in the Chinese calendar. This year that's Sunday 14 September, I think. |
