| Post subject: Kindergarten in (or close) to the French Concession |
Hi!
We just moved to Shanghai and I would appreciate if you could recommend an English or bilingual Kindergarten in / or close to the French Concession. So far I had a look at Shanghai Montessori, Julia Gabriel, Victoria and Tiny Tots. Do you know any of these, any experiences or comments? Please share!
Thank you very much!!

Hello Adriene,
Actually my twins boys just start the kindergarten in the French Concession. The school is WuNan kindergarten. It is a pubblic school but for the foreign passport holder they have a bilingual courses. The tuition fee is high as like as the other international k. but the school (with a huge outside area) is much better, i think.
I speak for the baby class...there are 4 teachers, 3 of them are chinese and 1 REAL teacher from England (not filipinos or other different country..).
I means, for the first week of school, i definitly love it!! The school is in Wulumuqi nan rd, just near the US consulate.
Just in front of this school there is also the Sunrise knidergarden, I visited it. Beautifull place but really small.
Hoping to be helpfull..
Bye |

As far as i know, Tiny Tots has a long waiting list. Never visited it, but heard good things about it/
Julia Gabriel impressed me last year and i even paid the registration fee to hold my son's spot there -- but ended up changing my mind and choosing a school in HongQiao (Stars and Stripes) that i believed to be much much better. But I still think Julia Gabriel is good.
The other ones you mentioned, as well as the one mentioned above by motherintown did not impress me at all, found a lot of things i did not like in all of them. |

My husband just told me he rides past a Little Eton on Ling Ling Lu and Wan Ping Lu. This area is Xu Hui but you have to go south across Zhao Jia Bang Lu. They have a website http://www.little-eton.com/5e.htm. It's a bilingual kindergarten with some native English speakers. I know nothing about it. I've had friends that went to Victoria on Hua Ting Lu. Their feeling about it was luke warm and after one year they all pulled their kids out. I also have a friend with a 2.5yr old at Julia Gabriel and so far they love it. |

Hiya,
I am Principal of the Shanghai Gardens Tiny Tots campus so I can tell you that our Tiny Tots campus on Fuxing Road has had waiting lists in the past but we have now expanded that location and have opened new classes. So I invite you to call or pop in and check for yourselves (43 Fuxing West Road, Tel: 6431 3788). It is a very popular campus and with good reason but best you go see for yourself.
In fact regarding all places with possible waiting lists its always a good idea to contact the kindergartens, schools etc directly as more often than not the waiting lists, if any, only exist in certain classes and not neccessarily in all.
Happy Hunting. |

Hello. I did a pretty thorough review of most of the pre-K bilingual programs in the French Conc. We chose to send our daughter to Shanghai Victoria HuaTing based on a variety of different factors, but to each their own. If you'd like my perspective on the different schools feel free to PM me. For a comprehensive listing of the schools in Shanghai try to find the Shanghai Parents & Kids publication put out by the same publisher as City Weekend. We got ours from our relo agent when we moved to SH in March. |

Hello, my children attend the Montessori School of Shanghai on DongHu Road. The campus is beautiful and the certified Montessori teachers are great with both of my children whom are enrolled in both the Toddler and the Primary program. check them out. I do know they have a waiting list for the Toddler but don't know whether the situation is the same for the Primary. But they look quite full but never hurt to ask. Their website is www.montessorisos.com. Goodluck |

my (now) 3 year old daughter is attending mothergoose on zhenning lu.
she is very happy there.
she started in nursery 1 and upgraded to N 2 (but still has her obsession with mrs. kussy - one of the very passionate N1 teachers she enjoyed
perfect for me as they do not focus on advertising and such hassle,
but keep the children happy instead |
