Post subject: Yellow Mountain Recommendations

We really want to see the yellow mountains in Anhui. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding time of the year to go and which tour group to try? We'd like something flexible with a private english speaking tour guide. What have people's experiences been with the airfare to HuangShan? We tried ctrip but could get any fares!

Get there early in the morning so that the haze is reduced. It builds as the day goes on.

Do not stay at the Cloud Valley (Tang Kou Yun Gu Shan Guang) hotel inside the park. While the location is great, the place is at seriously crappy dump even though they claim 3 or 4 stars.

I was there just before the October holiday and the weather was perfect.

No idea on tour groups, sorry.

We went up one lift then climbed the main peak climb down to a plateau and then up to another peak then took a different lift down. There are no lifts to the top only to staging areas.

I think I have a torn ACL from that trip.

My advice is to train before you go. You need to be in top physical form to climb the mountain. It was very tough for me. But it was amazing and the view from above the clouds is unparalleled. No need for tour guide, it's more just exercise and a great view, I don't think a guide would add much to the experience.

Sorry, need to clarify, we're going with our 15 month old toddler. No rigorous hikes for us!

Well then going there is out of the question. Pick somewhere else.

I did see some folks doing the pappoose thing with the kid strapped to their back but they seemed to be hating life.

Let me clarify - there's no reason you can't take a toddler, but if you don't want a rigorous hike then this is DEFINITELY not an option. Huang Shan is a rigorous hike, that's exactly what it is!

Are there any tramlines? We've got a 5 year old daughter and are also torn between the desire to see those mountains and the understanding of the difficulty of that trip Sad.

Would not recommend going up Yellow Mountain with young children. The cable cars only go up to a certain point, and then it is STRENUOUS stair climbing from there. There are hotels at the peak, but VERY expensive for what you get. It is damp and smelly, so be prepared. Beautiful scenery if you are lucky enough to go on a day that is not rainy and cloudy. Hi
how tedious is the walk from Taiping cable to Guangming peak via Feilai rock?

Also, any of you know what is the hotel rates for twin room with private toilet for next week?

Thanks
