| Post subject: C-Section....Can I go home after 3 days? |
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could please give their thoughts or experiences on this topic. I am due to give birth in 8 weeks (scheduled C-Section) and would like to go home after 3 days providing my daughter and I are healthy. My hospital however insists that I stay for the whole 5 days, I have had other women tell me that there is no reason for me to stay the whole time and this is just a way for the hospital to make extra money....(in our case it would be almost 20 000rmb extra if we stay the 5 days).
I will also have the assistance of my husband, mother in law and our Ayi. Any advice would be greatly appreciated........thank you!!!! |

I went home on the 4th day -- wanted to go on the 3rd day but my husband insisted that I stay another day just in case something went wrong (i had had a really strong pain the previous night that later turned out to be my gall bladder, and he kind of freaked out). I would have been absolutely fine going home on the 3rd day, I was up and about, no longer on IV pain meds and the only reason i did stay an extra day was that strange pain. |

Thanks Freedelia!!
I think that if I feel okay and the baby is healthy then I am leaving after 3 days.
Cheers!! |

I always felt fine after 3 days and wanted to go home, but I ended up staying in a couple more days for various reasons. At the time I was annoyed and thought it was a waste of time, but looking back I'm glad I did stay in. In China, you have no midwife visiting you, no-one to make sure baby is OK, breastfeeding is working OK etc.
Unless your mother-in-law or husband is a doctor/nurse, maybe think about it. 2 days isn't that long, and the hospital will do extra checks to make sure the baby is OK, you don't have any infections etc.
Also, even though you have all that help at home, you will still be tempted to do some "work" (nesting) or cooking etc. At least in the hospital you can focus on just the baby. And there will be people around who are trained/qualified to help you learn to breastfeed (if that's what you are doing.)
You may not be able to be up and about much at all for the first few days if you're like a lot of C-Section mums. |

I spent all 5 days at hospital because i am a first mom and had only my husband to help me with our baby and of course we decidee it was the best for us even though i felt fine after third day. We just didn't want to risk my health on saving two days with proper and professional care. Of course as you said you will have your family around and that is also a good pro, i suggest you to re-think. |
